Wall Street seen opening higher as bailout package focus



    (Reuters) - Futures point to a higher start on Wall Street on Monday. Futures for the S&P 500, for the Dow Jones Industrial average and Nasdaq were up 2.4 to 2.6 percent at 6:25 a.m.

    * The U.S. Senate is due to reconvene on Monday as White House and Democratic congressional negotiators seek to draft legislation to bail out the U.S. auto industry and stem a deepening of the U.S. recession.

    * Monday is also the deadline for privately owned banks to apply for capital injections under the Treasury Department's Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP).

    * MetLife , the largest U.S. life insurer, holds an investor day in New York. Executives are expected to speak to a growing list of investor concerns, including fears over further investment losses, rising costs for retirement products linked to stock market performance and MetLife's large exposure to the commercial real estate market through investments and lending.

    * Investors will be anxious to know if Texas Instruments can keep within the range of its already weak outlook when the chip maker gives its mid-quarter update.

    * Chip maker Broadcom holds its annual analysts meeting, where it could comment on how economic uncertainty is hurting demand for consumer electronics.

    * Soft drink bottle Coca-Cola Enterprises holds an investor call in which it will give a business update, discuss recent trends and provide an outlook for 2009.

    * Geophysical equipment supplier Mitcham Industries reports third-quarter results. The company has missed estimates in the last two quarters.

    * McDonald's reports November sales.

    * Diversified manufacturer 3M meets with investors to discuss its 2009 targets.

    * The Conference Board releases its employment trend index for November. In the previous month in the index read 105.3.

    * On Friday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average Index jumped 3.1 percent, the Standard & Poor's 500 Index rose 3.7 percent, while the Nasdaq Composite Index gained 4.4 percent.
