Wall Street cuts gains after grim GM sales



    NEW YORK (Reuters) - Stocks sharply pared gains on Tuesday after General Motors Corp posted a 41 percent slide in November auto sales, compounding investors' worries about the fate of the embattled U.S. auto industry.

    The Dow Jones industrial average was up 67.06 points, or 0.82 percent, at 8,216.15. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was up 10.45 points, or 1.28 percent, at 826.66. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 17.51 points, or 1.25 percent, at 1,415.58.

    Earlier, indexes had risen by more than 3 percent.
