IT Professionals Reveal Their Biggest Fears In RSA(R) Conference Survey

RSA(R) Conference, the world's leading information security
conference and exposition group, today revealed that over 70% of
European IT security professionals are more afraid of hackers than
they are of their mothers-in-law. These findings are the result of a
survey of registered delegates ahead of RSA Conference Europe which is
taking place later this month in Nice. When asked about IT security
priorities and fears being faced in the next six months, the survey
uncovered Identity Management as the single biggest concern for
organisations, with one third of respondents listing it as their
    single most important priority.

    Other key findings include:

-- Web viruses pose more of a threat than email viruses - while
29% ranked email viruses as their most significant threat, Web
viruses were listed as the most significant threat by 68%

-- Configuring firewalls is the single most time consuming task
for the IT Department - this accounts for over three hours
work per week for half of all IT professionals

-- Mobile Phone and Instant Messenger-borne viruses register
little concern in the minds of IT Professionals - 64% ranked
mobile phone viruses as the least significant threat, with 50%
of respondents placing IM-borne viruses next at the bottom of
    the list.

"The rapidly evolving nature of IT security places constant
pressures on security professionals. As this survey shows, the IT
Director can never stand still with new threats emerging and
priorities being constantly reassessed. Where email viruses once
dominated, web viruses are now becoming more significant with mobile
phone viruses still waiting in the wings. In such an environment, IT
Directors are keen to share their experiences with their peers as they
strive to keep ahead of security threats. Attendance at RSA Conference
Europe creates an educational environment that fosters discussion and
sharing of knowledge and best practices," commented Tim Pickard, RSA
    Conference Europe director.

RSA Conference Europe, being held in Nice on 23rd -25th October,
attracts over 1,400 international industry experts, executives,
developers, vendors and professionals and delivers its educational
programme through keynotes, tutorials, and more than 50 sessions
    across eight tracks.

The event will deliver compelling content to its attendees by
bringing together some of the world's most noted thought leaders and
respected security vendors. It is the leading security event for
educational debate and discussion for business leaders, policy makers
and security professionals and will provide insight and practical tips
on how to securely maximise the opportunities presented by the
    Internet.
