Ghostery?s Chief Privacy Officer to Address EU Parliament about Proposed Changes to Data Protection Regulations

Ghostery, a leader in digital privacy and transparency, is set to address the EU Parliament on January 28, 2015 – International Data Protection Day – about the potential of data and the proposed EU Data Protection Regulation’s impact on businesses.

With businesses now collecting and using information in new and innovative ways, including the Internet of Things and Big Data, it is imperative that information is able to flow smoothly without hindrance across borders. Todd Ruback, Ghostery’s Chief Privacy Officer, will offer comments on how data, if managed effectively, has limitless potential, and how the EU’s proposed data protection regulation, when enacted in a balanced and flexible way, could empower commerce and increase competition.

Ruback will also highlight the key challenges that should be considered within the new regulation and the need to adopt a flexible approach that will allow for the development of new technologies not yet in existence. Ruback aims to discuss how self-regulation might be part of this approach and how it could align with the goals of the EU’s proposed data protection regulation to keep pace with technological innovation and new uses of data by business.

“I’m honoured to be invited to address this esteemed body,” commented Ruback. “As a company focussed on the value of transparency and helping businesses adhere to industry best practices, Ghostery commends the EU for updating its data protection framework. I believe that it will add certainty and consistency for businesses, and redefine how consumer data is collected. There are a number of considerations that need to be taken into account and I look forward to sharing these insights on such a prominent stage.”

Ghostery is committed in fostering a more transparent Internet to help businesses grow and support responsible data collection.
