Celsis Innovations in Rapid Testing Systems Meet the Needs of GrowingManufacturing Companies
Celsis, the global leader in rapid microbial testing systems for industry, today introduced the next generation of their already robust and reliable Celsis Advance™ platform, the Celsis Advance II system.
The Celsis system shortens production cycle times by reducing the time necessary to screen product for microbial contamination. This results in less quarantined inventory awaiting quality control release and reduces working capital required to fund inventory. Additionally, earlier QC results provide an earlier indication of contamination when it occurs allowing for a more rapid and effective investigation and corrective action. Faster response to contamination typically reduces the economic impact of the event.
Celsis has worked with hundreds of manufacturing facilities globally to evaluate the cost savings generated from the Celsis system using the Celsis Financial Impact Assessment (FIA). Utilizing company specific information including the value of products produced by the site and the time and cost changes associated with the Celsis method, the FIA projects the 5-year Net Present Value (NPV) of a company’s investment in the Celsis system. The 5-year NPV for the average manufacturing facility is in excess of $500,000.
The Advance II system has been redesigned with a sleek new appearance. Upgrades make it easier to use and more reliable than ever before. The familiar sample tube platform has been maintained to allow maximum flexibility with sample size and sensitivity. New software innovations help Home, Beauty and Pharmaceutical products manufacturers keep multiple systems connected for remote data management, maintain data security and take advantage of new reagent technology developments.
“The new Advance II system has been designed to run the same protocols, using the same procedures and generate the same actual results as the original Advance. This was a design requirement for the system,” said Jeremy Robertson, Product Manager at Celsis. “The significance of this design requirement is that current Advance systems may be upgraded to the new Advance II without the need for product revalidation.”

Advance II system upgrades include:
Remote User Option
A new ‘Remote User Option’ allows monitoring of product quality testing results from multiple locations and includes full access to the Data Analysis Tools for running queries, analysis and reports from a local or remote network location. The new ribbon menu system groups routinely accessed functions together making the software more intuitive and easier to use. In addition, the Advance II system can export results to common file types used by LIM and ERP systems allowing full integration into manufacturing facilities’ inventory management processes.
“As rapid detection becomes more widely adopted by manufacturers to test the quality of their products we’re finding that more and more of our large global customers want the ability to instantly access and analyze test results from all their manufacturing facilities worldwide. We’ve developed an impressive array of features that allow users to do just that” said Sal Seminara, Vice President, Research & Development Instrumentation, Celsis. “Remote users can see results from their manufacturing plant in Mexico City or Beijing or South Africa or anywhere in the world connected to their network. They see the results in real time and can run reports and perform data trending analysis. This is the biggest innovation we’ve ever made to our Advance platform and broadens our customers’ access to important information about the quality of their products.”
At the local level the remote user option allows access to all data and data analysis tools outside of the lab. This means the quality manager can run queries and perform data analysis without entering the lab and interrupting lab or instrument operation.
Data Analysis
Advance II provides a powerful suite of tools to manage data archiving, results analysis and reporting including remote user capability. Users and remote users can:
- Quickly query results to find specific data based on multiple criteria
- Design and generate graphs for easy data trending analysis
- Customize and print reports
- Preview reports on screen as they are built to see the impact of customizations
- Use predefined templates to make reporting faster
- Export reports to common file types such as *.txt, *.csv and others
Injectors
Shipping standard with three injectors, the Advance II instrument has been designed with a fourth injector option. This gives users the additional flexibility to incorporate new reagent technology. Located on the side of the instrument the injectors are easily accessible for quickly loading reagents onto the system.
Validation and Security
Advance II.im has been fully validated on Windows 8, 7 and XP. The software allows users full compliance with the requirements of the FDA’s 21 CFR Part 11 and the EU’s Annex 11. User access and data integrity are securely maintained by the system and a log file records user actions for the lifetime of the installation.
Improved Performance
While the Celsis Advance luminometer has been an exceptionally rugged and reliable instrument, the new Advance II promises even better performance with upgrades to instrument efficiency of operation, flexibility and robustness including:
- Modular Electronics: The use of modular electronics improves the ease of exchange allowing for uninterrupted operation and service as well as seamless customization and upgrading.
- Cuvette Chain Roller: Redesigned rollers lift the sample chain off the floor of the instrument reducing wear of the components over time and extending the usable lifespan of the luminometer.
- Active Cooling: An active thermoelectric cooling system improves energy efficiency and responsiveness further contributing to consistent temperature control.
- USB Connectivity: USB port allows for universal connectivity.
Proven rugged and reliable systems plus dedicated global support make Celsis the top choice of leading manufacturers around the world. Celsis Advance systems are used to rapidly and effectively screen a growing variety of Home, Beauty and Pharmaceutical products — including body washes, lotions, soaps, toothpastes, cosmetics, tablets and ointments, IV solutions and oral drug suspensions — helping companies save time and money while releasing safe products to market.
