Bird flu outbreak hits second Dutch farm; 43,000 chickens to be destroyed

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - A second Dutch farm was hit by an outbreak of bird flu, the government said on Thursday, prompting the destruction of 43,000 chickens.

A three-day nation-wide ban on the transportation of all poultry and related farm products was also extended, a government statement said.

The latest infection was of the H5 strain, it said, but it was unclear if it was the highly-contagious H5N8 virus discovered last week at a farm 20 km (12 miles) away.
