Union does not rule out further strikes at Lufthansa this week

FRANKFURT (Reuters) - Strikes at Lufthansa could continue beyond Tuesday if the German airline fails to resume negotiations with its disgruntled pilots over retirement benefits, a board member of trade union Vereinigung Cockpit said.

"We explicitly do not rule out further strikes this week if Lufthansa doesn't budge," Markus Wahl told Reuters on Tuesday but said he hoped the carrier would make a new offer soon.

Lufthansa pilots began a strike at 1100 GMT on Monday, their eighth this year, that has forced the carrier to cancel more than 1,500 flights. The strike is due to run until 2159 GMT on Tuesday.
