Com Hem Selects Cisco IP NGN for New Peering Network; Continuous Operation of Cisco IOS XR Operating System Makes Cisco XR 12000 Series Routers Com Hem's First Choice

Cisco Systems(R) (NASDAQ:CSCO) today announced that Com
Hem, a leading broadband triple-play service provider serving a third
of households in Sweden, is providing increased capacity and
continuous operation needed to deliver high-performance broadband
services to its customers by upgrading its national peering network,
based on the Cisco(R) Internet Protocol Next-Generation Network (IP
    NGN) architecture.
The upgrade includes deployment of Cisco XR 12000 Series Routers
with the Cisco IOS(R) XR fully-distributed operating system, which
will provide high-availability 10 Gigabit Ethernet connections for Com
Hem's national backbone network to Swedish Internet access points and
international Internet service providers. The network will be
installed and configured by Cisco Gold Certified partner Cygate, who
will also manage the migration of traffic and operations from the
existing system to the new network.
"Our ability to meet our customers' demand for high-speed
broadband triple-play services has contributed to our growth and
allowed us to become the largest triple-play operator and the
third-largest broadband provider in Sweden," said Martin Kull, Com
Hem's chief technology officer. "The Cisco XR 12000 platform offers
outstanding performance in terms of high-availability functions and
ease of management, which will help us maintain the best user
    experience for our customers."
"Com Hem's choice of the Cisco XR 12000 Series Routers is
recognition of the advantages of the IOS XR platform that we developed
for our flagship Cisco Carrier Routing System CRS-1 platform," said
Sverker Hannervall, general manager of Cisco Systems Sweden. "Com Hem
also announced recently that it is running trials of the wideband
protocol for DOCSIS(R) solution from Cisco that will potentially make
100 megabits per second possible to each household. We look forward to
continuing our work with Com Hem to push the performance boundaries of
the network to deliver new and improved services to over 1.4 million
    homes in Sweden."
The Cisco XR 12000 Series Routers are designed to offer highly
secure virtualization, continuous operation and multiservice
capabilities to provide intelligent routing solutions that can deliver
capacities of up to 10 gigabit per second per slot for next-generation
IP Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) networks. The Cisco IOS XR
operating system for the Cisco XR 12000 Series router allows service
providers to isolate public and private services through the
virtualization of a single router into separate physical and logical
partitions. Cisco IOS XR software is a self-healing and self-defending
operating system designed for always-on operation while scaling
capacity and adding new services or features.
