BIOPRO Baden-Wurttemberg GmbH Helps Secure EUR 8.6 Million Investment in BioRegionUlm; Successful Biotech-Pharma Cooperation in Baden-Wurttemberg (Germany)

A regional consortium is investing EUR 8.6 million in
the biotech start-up CELLCA GmbH in Laupheim. CELLCA GmbH and
Rentschler Biotech GmbH, Laupheim, have agreed to cooperate following
the financing. The process was significantly supported by IHK Ulm,
BioRegionUlm and the SYNPRO team of BIOPRO Baden-Wurttemberg GmbH.
The CELLCA GmbH start-up was founded in order to develop and use
new technology for the optimized biotechnological production of
pharmaceutical substances. CELLCA GmbH is working on a new production
process based on stable production stocks. As a partner, Rentschler
can use this new technology for its own production projects. "However,
Rentschler does not have exclusive right of use on this technology",
emphasized CELLCA's Managing Director Dr Aziz Cayli. On 16 May 2006,
all the partners involved signed the cooperation and partnership
    agreements.

EUR 8.6 million from regional consortium

A regional consortium comprising banks, investors and national
funders is financing CELLCA GmbH to the tune of EUR 8.6 million and
thereby making the partnership between CELLCA GmbH and Rentschler
    Biotechnologie GmbH possible.

BIOPRO's economic promotion programme (SYNPRO) successful

The SYNPRO team of BIOPRO Baden-Wurttemberg GmbH, the service and
marketing agency from Baden-Wurttemberg dealing with issues affecting
the local biotechnology sector, helped secure the partnership. "This
success shows the effectiveness of BIOPRO's economic promotion
programme (SYNPRO). We have systematically supported all partners from
the pharmaceuticals industry, biotechnology and financial investment
through all critical phases of the talks and up to the conclusion of
negotiations", explained BIOPRO's Chief Executive Officer Dr Ralf
Kindervater. "This successful investment was possible only through
targeted and concerted cooperation between the regional initiatives
and the support of the Federal State of Baden-Wurttemberg", said Dr
    Kindervater.
