Phoenix Technologies Ltd. First to Market with BIOS-Secured Firmware for Microsoft Subscription and Pay-as-You-Go Computing; New TCSubscribe Supports Microsoft FlexGo for Secure Usage Metering, Tamper-Resistant Protection

Phoenix Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq:PTEC) today announced
that TCSubscribe(TM), its optional component for TrustedCore(TM)
firmware, now supports pay-as-you-go and subscription computing with
Microsoft FlexGo(TM). The TCSubscribe reference design for Microsoft
FlexGo technology was jointly specified and developed with Microsoft
to provide secure usage metering and the ability to protect partner
investments from default or tampering. With TCSubscribe, computer
manufacturers and designers can leverage the wide range of
industry-standard hardware already supported by TrustedCore to quickly
and easily support this emerging market.
"Microsoft was pleased to collaborate with Phoenix Technologies on
the specification of TCSubscribe reference design for Windows XP to
deliver an enriching experience to our customers," said Tom Phillips,
general manager of the New Business & Products Group at Microsoft.
"TCSubscribe works with widely available industry-standard hardware
and includes security features that address the market for
    subscription and pay-as-you-go computers."
Despite the sharp decline in prices in recent years, personal
computers are still unobtainable to many consumers around the world
because of barriers such as fluctuating income levels and high entry
costs for buying a PC. Pay-as-you-go and subscription computing
models, similar to consumer cell phone plans, make computing more
affordable and accessible by offering greater flexibility in finance
    options.
"This cooperative effort between Phoenix and Microsoft will help
bring affordable computing to new users and open large new markets
around the world," said Albert E. Sisto, chairman, president and CEO,
Phoenix Technologies. "Subscription and pay-as-you-go computing are
logical extensions of the global corporate and product competencies
Phoenix has built over 25 years in the PC industry."
A beta version of TCSubscribe reference platform for Windows XP is
available immediately. The production version is expected in Q3 2006.
