Business Wire and EuroBiO Sign Partnership for THE Life Sciences Event of the EU Presidency

Just days before the Official Opening of BIO 2008, Business Wire and EuroBiO proudly announce the signature of an extensive partnership agreement between the world´s news distribution leader and EuroBiO 2008, THE Life Sciences Event of the European Union Presidency, which will take place this year in Paris from October 7–9.

"Business Wire is the official wire for BIO in the USA, and so it makes sense to adopt an identical approach in Europe", said Leon Harbar, Business Wire Vice President, Global Trade Shows & Events. "The EU Presidency Event in Europe for BioScience and BioIndustry is also an excellent showcase for Business Wire, in terms of its content as well as its exhibitors and visitors". Olivier Corneloup, Regional Manager of Business Wire France & Southern Europe added: " We are delighted to be the official wire for EuroBiO, especially this year when there are so many important issues at stake within the life sciences in Europe."

"Needless to say, we´re very excited. This agreement clearly indicates the importance, and value, of EuroBiO to all the major Life Sciences stakeholders", added Abigail Gemo–Charlet, Director of Marketing and Communication, who engineered this broad collaboration. "It is the clear illustration that the perception of our eminent International Steering Committee Members was right on the mark, and, as a matter of fact, quite visionary: Europe has come a long way and its Life Sciences sector is now mature enough to understand the benefit to be derived from a "continental BIO" event, whose purpose is to encourage, and serve, the fast expanding biotech activity, cross–sector, cross border. It is fascinating to observe how the dynamic set in place exactly fifteen years ago by Carl Feldbaum, the former President of BIO, which transformed the nascent US BioIndustry through "benign enforcement "of its unification, is now being replicated in Europe"¦ ".

The lesson to be learned: Qui audet adipiscitur…Who Dares…WINS!

Business Wire´s wide networks and experience will thus reinforce the PR activities worldwide of this unique "European Presidency Edition of EuroBiO". The agreement will enable EuroBiO to both promote new European ambitions and objectives on a far wider scale, and to highlight the event´s ambitious mission.

The goal set last year by Philippe Busquin, former European Commissioner for Research, was clear and precise "to bring together researchers, business developers, funding organizations, large corporations, recruitment agencies and many other sector specialists…EuroBiO will emulate the life science business and scientific community, for whom dialogue between stakeholders from different spheres is essential. Private–public partnerships and B–to–B alliances are fuelling the sector´s growth and influencing the success of innovative biotech projects".

The EU Presidency Label will push this ambitious goal even further: EuroBiO 2008´s motto is, not surprisingly, "Make Change Happen". At a time when Eco–Industries are "deciding" who will be the 21st Century´s economic leaders, Europe has decided to reveal one of its best kept secrets"¦ "Yes, surprisingly enough, it is not yet well known for instance that the European industrial biotechnology represents over 80 % worldwide of this strategic sector, THE highway towards global economic development in a growing environment–friendly political sphere…", says Steen Riisgaard, Chairman of the powerful Federation of European Bioindustries (EuropaBio), also CEO of Novozymes, the world market leader in industrial biotech.

"It is somewhat ironic to see that we are so busy focusing expansion towards Brazil, China and other emerging powers that we forget to point out that the reason we are ahead in Europe today is simply because we began to be concerned about our global Environment way before Kyoto itself…", he added.

Global Environment and other pressing issues will be discussed and debated by over 5,000 life sciences experts at EuroBiO 2008. The conclusions of these debates will be published in the Call for Change Report which will be circulated internationally by Business Wire subsequent to EuroBiO, and presented in leading European BioCities, among which, London, Brussels, Milan – and Stockholm, Sweden hosting next year´s EU Presidency.

    About EuroBiO

Founded in 1997 at the initiative of the French Ministry of Research, the then–called European Biotech Crossroads succeeded in bringing together all those who make and shape biotechnology in Europe life science companies; start–up projects; students; researchers; private & public–sector research organizations; industry bodies; investors; consulting firms; multinationals from the biotech, pharmaceutical, diagnostics, agrifood & environmental sectors; local authorities; clusters; bioparks; bioincubators; public authorities and regulatory bodies.

In 2006, the European Biotech Crossroads celebrated its 10th anniversary in Paris. Under the guidance of Eric Poincelet, former Director General of The World Life Sciences Forum BioVision and founder of BioSquare, the event was totally transformed and remodelled according to the US BIO structure: Four Pillars, Three Sectors, and Three Generations. To reflect this transformation into what is set to become "The European BIO", the name EuroBiO was adopted. Over 4,000 experts joined in the newly "revamped" EuroBiO in 2006. And over 5,000 are expected this year for the EU Presidency Edition 2008.

EuroBiO is now a truly international event, with a prime focus on European issues. The Event is dedicated to Life Sciences in general, and to biotech´s three major fields of application in particular: Health, Agro–industry and Environment.

The overall setting of EuroBiO 2008 was awarded to Paris and Region Ile–de–France; the concrete organization of the event is ensured by its Regional Economic Development Agency for Paris Ile–de–France (ARD) and its Partner, Package Organization.
