Kuwait blast did not affect oil exports


    KUWAIT (Reuters) - An explosion at a petrochemical facility in Kuwait did not affect oil exports or operations at the OPEC member's second-largest refinery nearby, an oil official said on Thursday.

    The explosion was in an industrial area of the MinaAbdullah port, away from the 270,000 barrel per day refinery,the official at the state refining arm KNPC told Reuters.

    "The explosion happened outside the refinery in MinaAbdullah, in the industrial area where there are severalcompanies and private factories," the official said.

    "There was no effect on the refinery installation andexports."

    It was not immediately clear what caused the blast andwhether anyone was killed or injured.

    Kuwait is the world's seventh-largest oil exporter. Itpumped 2.58 million bpd in May, according to a Reuters survey.
