Transformative Power for Broadband World Forum
The Broadband World Forum has successfully reinforced its position as the world’s largest broadband event as thousands of delegates today filled the RAI Exhibition and Convention Centre in Amsterdam. Following an exciting opening day, the event highlighted the transformative power of broadband with visionaries from some of the most important individuals in broadband today in attendance.
The conference kicked off with show keynotes from Marcus Weldon, CTO at Alcatel-Lucent, and Daniel Tang, CTO of Fixed Network at Huawei. The event went on to showcase international representation from some of the most innovate service providers who highlighted the latest digital innovations and the industry’s opportunity for collaboration to please increasingly demanding consumers. This included Erik Hoving, Chief Strategy, Innovation and Technology Officer, KPN Group; Kevin Lo, General Manager of Access, Google Fiber; and Wing Lee, Chief Executive Officer at YTL; Steve Unger, CTO at Ofcom; and Julian Ashworth, Director-Group Industry Policy, BT Group.
The exhibition saw an array of exciting activity from exhibitors, including the Broadband Forum who hosted its Interoperability Pavilion which showcased some of the latest interoperability advancements, testing options and new products in G-PON, VDSL2 Vectoring and TR-069. Lantiq, a supplier of broadband access and home networking technologies, introduced its broadband solutions to drive the next stage of wire line connectivity and in-home media distribution; Broadpeak, a provider of content delivery network (CDN) technologies and video streaming servers for cable, IPTV, OTT, and hybrid TV operators worldwide, unveiled a second application for its award-winning nanoCDN technology; AudioCodes showcased its new Multi-Service Business Router (MSBR) which offers all-in-one business communications services; InCoax, a provider of IP over Coax solutions, launched its next generation Coax Link Controller; and Genesis Technical Systems presented the recently launched mBond™ solution.
The opening day also saw a flurry of activity in the event’s content hubs, including a special session which was hosted by the Home Gateway Initiative (HGI) and focused on the broadband home and attracted the attention of many broadband operators focussing on smart home gateways and functions; a security workshop which was hosted by the Internet Society and focussed on security in DNS and security concerns; and an analyst spotlight and industry forecast.
Looking to tomorrow, the conference and exhibition promise to be equally as stirring, with the Executive Summit, which is hosted by Telstra, set to bring together broadband’s most influential CxO level representatives. Day two also plays host to the Broadband InfoVision Awards, which will welcome over 300 of the industry’s elite to celebrate innovation and excellence in the industry.
Mark Dawson, Research Manager and Head of Content and Partnerships for the Broadband World Forum, says: “We’re delighted with the reception we received today and the amount of innovative solutions that have been unveiled in the evolving broadband marketplace. With another busy day expected tomorrow (23 October), we´re already looking forward to next year´s event.”
