EBD Group Announces New Academic Innovators Showcase at International Partnering Events
EBD Group, organizer of the life science industry’s leading partnering events, announces the addition of an Academic Innovators Showcase at their conferences. Based on pharma’s interest in increasing their access to academia, the new initiative is designed to shine a spotlight on extraordinary scientific advances with strong translational potential. The Academic Innovators Showcase will feature presentations from nonprofit universities, institutes and hospitals who are actively conducting preclinical research within a noncommercial setting.
The presentation track will debut at BioPharm America™ 2013 to be held in Boston September 17–19 at the Westin Boston Waterfront in Boston, MA, with a second showcase at BIO-Europe® 2013, to be held in Vienna, Austria, November 4–6.
University researchers and technology transfer offices can apply to present and have immediate access to increased exposure through EBD Group’s sophisticated web-based partnering service, partneringONE®, and through membership in partnering360®, the open online community of life science dealmakers that enhances partnering experiences throughout the year.
“Collaboration between the biopharma industry and academic researchers is an increasingly important part of translating scientific advances into new medicines for patients. The Academic Innovators Showcase will provide additional insight and opportunity into the development and utilization of innovative technologies that result from university-led research,†said Kumar Srinivasan, Vice President, Scientific Partnering and Alliances, AstraZeneca.
"The creation of the Academic Innovator Showcase was obvious for us,†said Florian Schoenhammer, Group Managing Director of EBD Group. “We have always welcomed academic and pre-seed funding projects at our events, and the addition of the Showcase will provide yet another avenue for pharma and investors to form early stage partnerships."
“The Showcase is a strong launchpad for early stage company formation and technology commercialization,†said Abigail Barrow, Founding Director of the UMass-based Massachusetts Technology Transfer Center (MTTC). “We know that pharma is becoming increasingly interested in innovations that have been developed in the university setting, but getting that innovation to the market can often be a long and difficult process. I am thrilled to see this innovation highlighted at EBD Group’s partnering events which will give researchers and technology transfer officers additional exposure for their discoveries.â€
