Vectron International Announces Rubidium Performance in a Crystal Oscillator

Vectron International, a leader in the design and manufacture of Precision Oscillators and Timing Solutions for Communication, Industrial, Military and Space applications, today announced a new class of high precision crystal oscillators with the release of its new Extended Holdover Crystal Oscillator (EHXO) line. The EHXO is specifically designed to ensure accurate timing in wireless base stations at a fraction of the price of rubidium frequency standards. The MX-042 will be showcased, for the first time in Booth 712 at the 2013 IMS Symposium in Seattle, WA from June 4th - 6th.

Holdover” refers to the ability of the base station to maintain its performance levels through any interruption in the main network or GPS timing signal. This can occur when the satellite timing reference is susceptible to urban canyon effects or intermittent jamming, where high traffic levels make network derived timing unavailable or where the external source of timing is otherwise compromised. The performance of the MX-042, enables base stations to stay online and in operation even if the master timing reference is lost for up to 24 hours.

“As more broadband content is being delivered over wireless networks, it is increasingly important that base stations maintain accurate frequency and phase to ensure continued service to the customer, “said Greg Smolka, Vice President of Sales, Vectron International. “In addition, our customers continue to look for ways to deliver more value to their customers for less capital investment. The MX-042 was developed to specifically meet these needs by delivering a precision quartz–based solution where previously only expensive rubidium timing standards could meet the requirements.”

The high levels of stability achieved by the MX-042 ensure that frequency and phase budgets are maintained, allowing the base station to continue to function normally even in the absence of its main timing reference. “Our Design Engineers at Vectron have created a solution with reduced power consumption and half the cost of traditional high stability references,” said Dave Bail, General Manager of Precision Oscillators, Vectron International. “By lowering the total cost of ownership associated with this level of assurance Vectron is helping its customers guarantee the highest levels of service in the wireless network.”
