Russia opens tax evasion probe into TNK-BP unit


    MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia's Interior Ministry is investigating a large-scale tax evasion case against one of the former units of BP's Russian oil venture, TNK-BP, a ministry spokeswoman said on Tuesday.

    "The investigative department of the ministry has opened acriminal investigation against Sidanco according to the article199 of the Criminal Code, part 2 -- large-scale tax evasion,"said Angela Kastuyeva, spokeswoman for the department.

    She said the sum in question was over 1 billion roubles(21.15 million pounds). TNK-BP liquidated Sidanco after mergingits assets with other firms during its consolidation in 2005.
