UpToDate® Adds Psychiatry as a Specialty
Wolters Kluwer Health, a leading global provider of information for healthcare professionals and students, announced today that UpToDate has added Psychiatry to its evidence-based clinical decision support resource, making it the 20th medical specialty included in an UpToDate subscription.
The addition of Psychiatry is the culmination of over three years of collaboration between Dr. Peter P. Roy-Byrne and Dr. Murray B. Stein, Co-editors-in-Chief of UpToDate in Psychiatry. Roy-Byrne and Stein led a team of leading psychiatrists to expand and build psychiatry content in all major areas "” including psychotic disorders, depressive disorders, bipolar disorders, anxiety disorders, somatoform disorders, eating disorders, impulse control disorders, substance-use disorders and personality disorders.
In a recent beta test of the content, psychiatric professionals found that UpToDate answered more than 90 percent of their questions.* As with all UpToDate content, the Psychiatry specialty includes peer-reviewed, evidence-based recommendations that reflect the latest medical advances and practices from over 460 medical journals, including Archives of General Psychiatry, American Journal of Psychiatry, British Journal of Psychiatry, and Journal of Clinical Psychiatry.
"UpToDate has always been committed to evolving the breadth and depth of our medical content so healthcare practitioners can provide the very best care," said Denise S. Basow, MD, President and Editor-in-Chief of UpToDate. "Adding a Psychiatry specialty is testament to this commitment and I´m pleased that psychiatric practitioners will be further armed with the best evidence-based recommendations available to treat their patients."
