Eurosport Draws 106 Million Different TV Viewers During London 2012 and Also Hits Digital Records



    During the Olympics, Eurosport increased its average TV audience by 80% and confirmed London 2012 as the first truly digital Games by breaking records on web and mobile.

    From 28 July to 12 August, a total of 106 million different TV viewers watched the London 2012 Olympic Games on Eurosport. The best three programmes were Athletics night sessions (5, 8 and 9 Aug) which drew over 13m different viewers each.

    Eurosport´s global average audience during the Games (09:00 - 25:00 CET) was up 80% compared to its yearly audience.

    Online Eurosport.com* attracted nearly 5.6m** daily visitors during London 2012, 4.4m on the web and 1.2m on mobile, 36% higher than its yearly average daily global audience (4.1m). With 6.5m** fans on 3 August, Eurosport.com achieved its best ever digital performance, while the English and Spanish markets broke their individual historical records on the web during the Games.

    The London 2012 Olympic Games were the main driver of online traffic with 72% of the total audience accessing dedicated expert content. Athletics, Swimming and Tennis were the most followed sports on Eurosport.com.

    Eurosport developed social media with success across Twitter and in particular Facebook to enhance fans´ engagement. Over 3.5m visitors were driven to the online network by Facebook social readers throughout the 16 days of competition.

    Eurosport´s broadcast of Olympic sports continues beyond London 2012. The channel covers sporting events from 21 of the 26 official summer Olympic federations, for a total of over 2000 hours each year. Eurosport also broadcasts extensively the events of the seven wintersports Olympic federations for a yearly total of 1600 hours. In 2013 fifteen World Championships will be on air across winter and summer Olympic disciplines.
