Security concern prompts Delta flight to return to New York
Delta Flight 126, a Boeing 767-300 with 206 passengers aboard, landed safely at John F. Kennedy airport shortly after 9:30 p.m. EDT, about 90 minutes after takeoff, according to the airline.
There were conflicting accounts of whether anyone was being held.
Delta described the situation as a "Security (SECURITY.8)concern" without elaborating. Out of an abundance of caution, the airline said in a statement, the plane returned to New York.
Passengers reported finding suspicious items, described by one law enforcement source as wires, in a bathroom during the flight.
Once back in New York, the aircraft was examined by bomb technicians and no explosives were found, according to a second law enforcement source.
