On Course for Success: the First Joint Life Sciences Event with BIOTECHNICA AMERICA, INTERPHEX and PharmaMedDevice

BIOTECHNICA AMERICA has teamed up with INTERPHEX and
PharmaMedDevice to stage the first joint life sciences event on
American soil. And a good five weeks before the new show opens,
bookings are already coming in thick and fast. "The concept of
bringing together the pharma and biotech sectors under one roof is
offering exhibitors and visitors in Philadelphia a fantastic
opportunity to get a foothold in the American pharma and biotech
market, as well as opening up access to new international customer
groups", says Stephan Kuhne, a senior member of the board at Deutsche
Messe AG, Hannover. All three trade fairs will be taking place in
parallel from 26 to 28 March 2008 at the Pennsylvania Convention
    Center in Philadelphia.

Co-organizers Deutsche Messe and Reed Life Sciences are expecting
around 1,100 exhibitors with total stand bookings of 235,000 square
feet (approx. 21,831 square metres). Companies from 20 nations will be
using the three-day event to showcase their latest developments in the
field of pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, including products and
    innovations from 1,500 product lines.

Heading the list of nations represented at the new show are the
USA and Canada, China and France, followed by Germany, India, Japan,
Switzerland, Taiwan and the United Kingdom. Numerous world market
leaders such as Boehringer Ingelheim Pharma, Pfizer, Millipore
Corporation, Mettler-Toledo, Sova Solexis, Thermo Fisher Scientific,
Hoffmann La Roche, Sartorius, Eppendorf and GE Healthcare will have a
    high-profile presence in Philadelphia.

An estimated 10,000 visitors are expected to attend, including
more than 2,000 representatives of the biotech and biopharmaceutical
industries alone. "The combination of three-day exhibition and
accompanying congress creates the right environment for nurturing
joint research partnerships and forging strategic alliances," explains
    Kuhne.

Over 100 lecture presentations will fill in the background to the
products and technologies on display. The headline themes of the
three-day conference program are Biotechnology, Nanotechnology and
Facility Design. Keynote speakers from the three life science
industries - medical devices, pharmaceutical products and
biotechnology - will report on the latest research findings and
successful trends in practical applications. They include G. Steven
Burrill, CEO, Burrill & Company, Ray Krauss, CEO GlucoLight, Adrian
Rawcliffe, Senior Vice President, GlaxoSmithKline, and David King,
    former CEO of BioRexis.

In addition, representatives of the five winners of this year´s
"Facility of the Year Award (FOYA)" - including three German companies
    - will be in attendance at the Pennsylvannia Convention Center in Hall
D/Stand 4441. The Award, which was presented for the fourth time on 1
February 2008 by the ISPE (International Society for Pharmaceutical
Engineering), INTERPHEX and the trade journal Pharmaceutical
Processing, is given to innovative companies in the pharmaceutical
industry for achievements in five categories. Among the 2008
prize-winners are Boehringer Ingelheim, Germany (category "Facility
Integration"), Bristol-Meyers Squibb, USA (category "Equipment
Innovation"), IDT Biologika GmbH, Germany (category "Operational
Exellence"), Pfizer, Germany (category "Process Innovation") and F.
Hoffmann La Roche AG, Switzerland (category "Project Execution").

Another notable highlight of the show is the international "Life
Sciences Job Fair" on 26 and 27 March. This careers platform for
scientific and technical positions in the life sciences industry
offers job-seekers from all over the world the opportunity to talk
directly to company representatives and personnel officers with
current vacancies to fill. The event has been jointly organized by the
AAPS (American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists) and the ISPE.

    About BIOTECHNICA AMERICA

BIOTECHNICA AMERICA is part of a growing family of BIOTECHNICA
trade shows worldwide. This year´s show is being staged for the first
time in conjunction with the international trade fair INTERPHEX and
PharmaMedDevice. The combination of these three events creates one of
the most important communication platforms for the life sciences in
North America. In addition to the parent show, BIOTECHNICA in
Hannover, the leading trade fair for the European biotechnology
industry (7 - 9 October 2008), and BIOTECHNICA AMERICA in
Philadelphia, this year also sees the second outing for BIOTECH CHINA
    (28 - 30 May 2008) in Shanghai.
