Nokia and Reuters Harness the Power of Collaborative Innovation at the World Economic Forum

Reuters (NASDAQ:RTRSY)(LSE:RTR) journalists and select media
industry giants attending the World Economic Forum in Davos have
become "mobile journalists" by reporting from behind the scenes at
this invitation-only meeting of the world´s top business and political
    leaders.

The theme for this year´s annual meeting is The Power of
Collaborative Innovation, and Nokia and Reuters have equipped
delegates such as Sir Martin Sorrell, CEO of WPP and Tom Glocer, CEO
of Reuters with specially formulated "mobile journalism" toolkits
installed on Nokia N82 handsets. Participants have been challenged to
capture compelling images, and the toolkits have enabled them to file
stories, photos and videos to Reuters.com directly from their
handsets. Mobile journalist stories, photos and video are available on
    Reuters.com at: http://blogs.reuters.com/davos2008/

In October of 2007, Nokia Research Center (NRC) and Reuters
introduced a mobile journalism application to transform how
journalists filed stories in the field. The mobile application allows
reporters to file and publish multimedia news stories from handheld
    devices, rather than laptops.

"The strength of journalism is that it offers access to news
events and newsmakers," said Nic Fulton, Chief Scientist at Reuters.
"At Davos, the delegates themselves have the ultimate access, and
through this initiative with Nokia we are providing a unique insider´s
    perspective of this influential forum."

Through an ongoing trial that started last summer, select Reuters
journalists around the world made use of the mobile journalism
application in their everyday work to edit, combine and file text,
images, sound and live and recorded video streams, producing and
publishing multi-media stories of broadcast quality without needing to
return to the studio or office. Reuters journalists have filed stories
from events ranging from New York´s Fashion Week to the Edinburgh Film
Festival to the U.S. Presidential campaign. News material from the
trial has been used on Reuters.com sites and by Reuters news agency
feeds. Sample stills and video can be seen online at:

"The World Economic Forum is a great place to continue showcasing
the long term research collaboration between Nokia and Reuters," said
Tero Ojanpera, Executive Vice President, Nokia. "Not only are Nokia
and Reuters practicing The Power of Collaborative Innovation, but
together we are empowering others to do the same with an easy-to-use
    solution for mobile devices."

The mobile journalism application uses the multimedia capabilities
already available in existing converged devices and combines them to
produce a toolkit that is both intuitive and easy to use. The toolkit
combines multimedia capabilities, text editing tools and live video
streaming and is accessed using an innovative user interface. Metadata
facilities automatically combine every piece of information the device
already has about the context for the story - location, time, date and
so on. Reuters has already developed a mobile editorial interface that
links the toolkit developed by NRC to the in-house editorial process,
allowing stories to be published almost instantly from the field.
