Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. Launches New DWDM SFP Transceivers, Leading the Industry in Dispersion Tolerance and RoHS Compliance

Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. (SEI) (TOKYO:5802)
(ISIN:JP3407400005), an established manufacturer of optical components
and modules, today announced the launch of newly industry-leading
dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) small form factor
    pluggable (SFP) transceivers.

Network infrastructures and the applications they carry such as
VoIP and IPTV continue to drive increased bandwidth. So does the
capital investment of service providers to upgrade their systems. DWDM
is an attractive technology for increasing capacity and enables system
developers to provide increased bandwidth serving multiple
applications in the Long Haul and Metro at lower costs.

The new DWDM SFP, SCP9FB8 series, is designed to support 3200ps/nm
and a distance of 160km by adapting the Laser Driver with low chirp
characteristics and optimizing the drive current. Previous 160km
transmission dispersion tolerance was 2400ps/nm. The conventional
models can be deployed in data links with spans of up to 120km.
"Considering the WDM technology has been eroding in Metro area from
Long-haul, expansion of distance is the key to fulfill the customer
demand." said Ichiro Kono, General Manager of SEI´s Optical
Transmission Components Division. "SEI is not the leading company at
Long-Haul market but these products should expand our business
    opportunities."

The features of SCP9FB8 series are, 1) Improving the value of
dispersion tolerance from 2,400ps/nm to 3,200ps/nm by adopting of
laser diode with the low chirp characteristic and optimizing the laser
diode driving current, 2) Equipped with Variable Decision Threshold
(VDT) function which reshapes the received waveform by optimizing
logical judgment threshold level by way of I2C, 3) Fully RoHS
    compliant.
