Barclays to cut 3,000 jobs in 2011


    LONDON (Reuters) - British bank Barclays warned it could cut a total of 3,000 jobs in 2011 as part of an ongoing drive to reduce costs.

    Chief Executive Bob Diamond told reporters on a conference call that there had been a net reduction in headcount of 1,400 during the first half.

    He added that although Barclays did not have a precise overall job cuts figure in mind, the first-half trend was likely to accelerate in the second half.

    "You should assume this trend to continue and increase somewhat," said Diamond.
