Sunic System and Novaled in Joint Development on Thin Film Encapsulation
Sunic System, a major producer of vacuum deposition equipment for
OLED and Novaled, a leading provider of doping technology and
materials for organic electronics announce a joint development. Both
partners will work together to build up the next generation of Thin
Film Encapsulation (TFE) tools, technologies and materials.
Novaled and Sunic System will develop a new generation of
deposition tools and organic materials to improve the deposition
process and lifetime of TFE. In this collaboration Novaled will call
on its experience in organic structures and skills in organic
materials. Sunic System will provide its expert knowledge on both
organic and inorganic deposition and encapsulation equipment.
"A new organic material for TFE needs to be developed together
with the associated deposition tool," states Gildas Sorin, CEO of
Novaled. "The cooperation with Sunic System will bring to market a
turn-key solution enabling customers to rapidly ramp-up to high
volumes at reasonable costs."
"This cooperation enables Sunic System to become a major player
for organic TFE and organic flexible devices in the equipment
industry. We are delighted to work with a skilled partner like
Novaled," says Hoon Lim, Managing Executive Director of Sunic System.
About TFE
Thin film encapsulation is a promising technology to hermetically
encapsulate organic devices like OLEDs and replace the current glass
plates by very thin organic and inorganic multilayers. TFE will allow
for flexible and rollable organic products with a thickness in the
micrometer range.
About OLEDs
OLEDs are semiconductors made from thin layers of organic material
only a few nanometers thick, which emit light. In a fast growing
market OLEDs are key parts of a revolution: the dream of paper-thin,
flexible, highly efficient displays with brilliant colors and high
contrast is becoming reality. OLEDs represent the future of ultra flat
panel displays as well as a vast array of new lighting applications.
About Novaled
Novaled AG is engaged in the research, development and
commercialization of organic light-emitting diode (OLED) technologies
and proprietary materials. The company is a spin-off from the
University of Dresden and the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. Main investors
include Credit Agricole Private Equity, TechnoStart, TechFund Capital
Europe and CDC Entreprises Innovation. Founded in 2001, Novaled
experienced rapid growth, maturing into a world-class company. The
enterprise commercializes its Novaled PIN OLED(TM) technology along
with its proprietary OLED materials to display makers and lighting
companies. The company has a strong IP position in OLED technology
based on some 300 patents granted or pending. www.novaled.com
About Sunic System:
Since its founding in 1990, Sunic System has been concentrated on
developing and manufacturing machineries particularly in the field of
OLED. Equity participation of KRW 8.5 billion from Mirae Asset Group
Consortium in 2005 has greatly enhanced its financial stability.
So far, Sunic's OLED equipments have been widely used by major
display panel manufacturers including Samsung SDI, Samsung
Electronics, and Neo View Kolon; Material developers such as LG
Chemicals and Merck KGaA; various universities and R&D centers such as
IPMS. Overseas customers include IPMS, Thomson, OSRAM, and Merck KGaA
in Europe, OptoTech in Taiwan, SVA, UESTC, and HongKong Univ. in China
and HongKong.
Sunic's management policy is to maintain its leading role in the
OLED equipment industry by strengthening its R&D, especially
equipments for large area production.
Also noteworthy is Sunic's set-up of service center in Europe
slated for October 2007 will further activate its operation in the
region.
