Corrected: Pernod loses Havana Club appeal in fight with Bacardi
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Pernod Ricard SA the world's No. 2 spirits maker, lost a U.S. appeals court ruling on Tuesday over the right to use the name "Havana Club" on rum sold in the U.S. market.
The decision, handed down by a U.S. Appeals Court in the District of Columbia, affirms an earlier court ruling that found that Cubaexport, a Cuban state-owned company, does not have the right to renew the trademark.
Pernod, which sells Havana Club rum in other countries around the world, said it will seek a rehearing of the case.
Bacardi, which is also trying to register the Havana Trademark in the United States, did not immediately have a comment on the ruling.
