PacketFront Enables Open Access FTTH Broadband for the City of Vienna

PacketFront, the pioneer in open-access FTTH (Fiber-To-The-Home)
broadband networking, has announced a new deal with Wien Energie
Wienstrom, an Austrian utility company owned by the city of Vienna.
PacketFront's solution mean that Wien Energie is now able to operate a
fully automated open access FTTH network, making it possible for
residents to choose among a variety of broadband services from several
    competing content providers.

Wien Energie Wienstrom opted for PacketFront because of the
company's award winning BECSTM control and provisioning system which
makes it possible for operators to build and run fully automated
broadband networks with self-provisioning capabilities. These
capabilities give users the option to choose several services -
including voice, internet and TV - for themselves without having to
wait for a third party to make the changes. PacketFront also provides
Advanced Services Routers (ASRs) and Digital Residential Gateways
    (DRGs) to Wien Energie.

"We're very excited that Wien Energie chose us to build its open
access FTTH network initiative," said Martin Thunman, CEO of
PacketFront. "It's an audacious decision for Wien Energie to go down
the open access route. While this approach is now a common way of
thinking in Sweden, it's a new move for Austria."

Wien Energie will during the next two years connect 50,000
households in Vienna to the open access network that it calls
    "blizznet".

"We're delighted that we've been able to build on PacketFront's
expertise to offer the residents of Vienna the choice that an open
access network provides," said Dieter Weber, manager for Wien Energie
Wienstrom Telekommunikation. "Not only does open access offer a
better, more flexible service to our customers, but its simplified
management makes life easier for us too."
