Minimally Invasive Techniques in Urology: World's First Live Cryotherapy and Laser Procedures At SIU Sponsored by Galil Medical

The first interactive symposium on minimally invasive techniques
in urology to feature live cryotherapy and laser surgery takes place
today in Paris, one day prior to the prestigious SIU (Societe
Internationale d'Urologie) Congress. This innovative educational
symposium is sponsored by Galil Medical, in collaboration with the
equipment donors Lisa Laser Products and Karl Storz.

Over 50 physicians from all over the world as far as Singapore,
Saudi Arabia and Australia will attend the one day symposium initiated
and arranged by Dr. Herve Baumert, Head of the Department of Urology
at Paris Saint Joseph Hospital Trust. Dr Baumert explained, "This
pioneering meeting has been specifically designed to be both
informative and interactive, offering the opportunity to observe the
demonstration of live cryotherapy of the kidneys and the prostate,
along with live laser surgery for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)".

The morning sessions are dedicated to considering the latest
clinical data and advances in the field of minimally invasive
cryotherapy. Delegates will be able to view first-hand revolutionising
live prostate & renal cryotherapy procedures.

One of the morning speakers, Prof. Damien Greene, Consultant
Urologist at Sunderland Royal Hospital in the UK, highlights that
cryotherapy offers a safe alternative in the treatment of primary and
recurrent prostate cancer with the advantages being shorter hospital
stays and lower co-morbidity. Prof Greene commented "Cryotherapy is a
good alternative to traditional treatments for prostate cancer, such
as radical prostatectomy and external beam radiation treatment (EBRT).
Patient satisfaction with cryoablation is high, with the patient not
having to undergo major surgery and returning to well-being quicker
    than alternative treatments".

The symposium concludes by enhancing clinicians' knowledge in the
area of laser technology, including a live vaporesection for BPH and
discussions of the latest advancements in the field.

Members of the impressive faculty include consultants from the UK,
Israel, the United States, France, the Netherlands, Italy and Germany.
