Ex-U.S. President Carter to be released from hospital


    CLEVELAND (Reuters) - Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter will be discharged from a Cleveland hospital on Thursday afternoon following a two-day stay for an upset stomach caused by a viral infection, hospital officials said.

    Carter, who turns 86 on Friday, was rushed to the hospital on Tuesday after suffering an upset stomach while on a flight from Atlanta. He was in Cleveland to attend a book signing for his latest, "White House Diary."

    Carter has been active in international diplomacy since serving as president from 1977 to 1981.
