Microtek Extends Wavecom's Distribution Reach in Japan; Focus on the Expanding Japanese Market for Wireless M2M Solutions
Regulatory News:
Wavecom SA (NASDAQ:WVCM) (Paris:AVM) (ISIN:FR0000073066) and
Microtek today announced the expansion of their business relationship
extending coverage in the Japanese market.
Microtek has been named Wavecom's primary distributor for its
entire range of machine-to-machine (M2M) and automotive wireless
communication solutions including GSM/GPRS and CDMA. Microtek is
well-positioned to tap into the rapidly-expanding Japanese market.
Microtek will now provide Wavecom's leading-edge wireless
communications solutions to Japanese OEMs that make a wide range of
products from security and alarm systems to fleet management and
automotive telematics applications.
Machine-to-Machine communications is a growing sector of the
electronics industry. This technology allows systems to automatically
exchange data (via wireless networks) then, interpret and react to
status information via messages, sensors and alarms. This exchange of
information can be done either automatically, without the need for
human intervention, or it can be linked into a company's IT system
which allows the creation of new business models, especially those
focusing on services.
"Japan is a highly-developed market for cellular wireless
communication whose growth has been led by leading-edge wireless
operators for the telephone handset market," commented Mr. Sadao
Honda, Director, Microtek. He added, "We are excited to have the
opportunity to reinforce Wavecom's positon in Japan in the expanding
area of M2M wireless communication."
"Japan has long been an innovative hub for all types of electronic
products. So, naturally, we are anxious to extend our reach in this
important market." said Didier Dutronc, General Manager of Wavecom
Asia-Pacific. "By combining the wireless expertise of Wavecom with
Microtek's strong technical skills in electronic components and its
extensive distribution network make them a natural fit for Wavecom's
expansion in Japan."
About Microtek:
Since Microtek's inception in 1972, a strong foundation of
technical expertise has propelled its commercial expansion. Recently,
however, application specificity and further technical sophistication
have become IC industry necessities.
Microtek emphasizes the distribution via its Marketing Division,
which puts forth product planning adapted to the market by
communicating the customers' needs directly to the suppliers. In March
2003, the Division added new staff to its Technical Marketing Division
in order to further provide thorough technical support, and in April
2004, it reinforced its structure by establishing a Marketing Office.
Its Marketing Division provides support to customers for both hardware
and software and appoints staff that could put forth precise
suggestions to suppliers.
