Methode Electronics and SensorDynamics AG Announce ''ASIC ready'' Smart Position Sensors for Demanding Micron Precision Measurement Applications

Methode Electronics, Automotive Group Europe, a division of
Methode Electronics Inc. (NASDAQ: METH), a global developer and
manufacturer of electronic component and subsystem devices and,
SensorDynamics AG, a development company manufacturing intricate
microchip and micro-sensor systems announced today the availability of
the first jointly developed Smart Position Sensor for applications
requiring micro precision. This is a major achievement for the
partnership entered by both companies.

Methode's and SensorDynamics' innovative sensor technology allows
the direct position sensing of a metallic target. It also offers a
high level of micro-precision and flexibility in terms of the
geometrical configurations that are possible, sensing range,
electrical interfaces and operational environmental conditions.

Unlike conventional position sensors on the market today it has
in-built self diagnostics. This eliminates the need of plausibility
checks by other control modules and achieves a fail-safe operation
mode without employing multiple sensing elements. An integrated,
patented self-learning system continuously adapts itself from any
tolerances and lifetime variations.

This intelligent device relies on field proven Eddy current
sensing and automotive qualified semiconductor technology. Advanced IC
packaging technology enables operation in hostile environments at
temperatures from -40 degrees C up to +150 degrees C. PWM, LIN, SPI,
UART and GPIOs electronic interfaces are ASIC in-built. The integrated
microcontroller, memory and firmware components give the end customer
a high degree of freedom for adaptation to their specific
applications.

Emulation and verification tools are available for customer
specific sensor system applications.

automotive programs and continue to extend their product portfolio of
