EU exec details actions for electric car roll-out
Launching its strategy for green vehicles, the European Commission said: "The standardized charging interface should ensure interoperability and connectivity between the electricity supply point and the charger of electric vehicle."
Electric safety requirements should be proposed in 2010, while crash safety requirements and potential risks due to the quietness of electric vehicles need to be reviewed by 2012, it said.
"The Commission will propose a regulation on type-approval requirements for two- and three-wheelers and quadricycles in 2010 that will set emission standards," it added, referring to motorbikes, scooters and quad-bikes.
Other initiatives in the green strategy include fuel efficiency standards for trucks and for the air-conditioning units of cars.
