AES Vienna Keynote Speech by Helmut Voitl

AES 122nd Convention Keynote Speaker Helmut Voitl directed his
first documentary series in 1968. From 1992 - 1996 he dramatized the
Austrian Polar Expedition of 1872-1874, filming on location in the
    Russian High Arctic.

Entitled: "Sound and Emotion: The Power of Audio in Storytelling,"
Voitl's AES keynote address will explore the critical role audio plays
in the storytelling process. A vital means for implementing
understanding of the world around us, sound is a powerful medium for
emotional content. Filmmakers have long used these powers for
translating their storytelling to the audience in sublime and
occasionally drastic ways. In his presentation Voitl will address
various methods for engaging sound to augment, embellish or contrast
visuals. He is currently working on a new feature film, White Clouds
Island, on location in the High Arctic.

Set for May 5 - 8 at the Austria Center Vienna (ACV), the 122nd
AES Convention will provide a comprehensive range of audio technology.
Special programs focusing on Live Sound, Broadcast Audio and Archiving
will highlight three of the most important topics in audio today.
Inter-related groups of Papers, Workshops and Tutorials have been
developed to address the primary issues, Technologies and applications
within these areas. The AES is the only international convention where
    audio is the main theme.
