Pharmaceutical Human Resources Leader Joins Bench International to Create Healthcare Industry Diversity and Talent Initiatives
Bench International and Denise and Stephen Williams announced that
Edwin A. Hill joins the firm as Executive Advisor, Corporate
Recruitment, Retention and Diversity. In addition to his role with the
firm, Mr. Hill will also serve as CEO of The Foundation for Global
Pharmaceutical Diversity and Inclusion. The seed financing for the
launch of the Foundation is being provided by the Denise and Stephen
Williams Charitable Trust.
Mr. Hill served most recently as a Vice President, Diversity --
Pharmaceuticals Group Worldwide, until his retirement, and previously
held a number of senior human resource positions within the Johnson
and Johnson family and other major corporations. Mr. Hill influenced
the founding of the Johnson and Johnson corporate Office of Diversity
and led their Global Pharmaceutical Group's Diversity effort. Prior to
his tenure with Johnson and Johnson, Mr. Hill also worked in senior
human resources roles for twelve years with RCA Corporation and the
General Electric Company in Indiana and New Jersey.
The Foundation for Global Pharmaceutical Diversity and Inclusion
is a not-for-profit corporation created in recognition of the dire
lack of scientists who are being trained for careers in the
pharmaceutical sciences. This critical issue is overlayered with a
disproportionate shortage and even more critical lack of women and
ethnic minorities who are pursuing careers in the life sciences, hence
limiting broad representation of the global populace in improving the
quality of human health worldwide.
The mission of the Foundation is to attract and draw diverse
members of the world community in scientific discovery and
pharmaceutical development in an effort to change the current course
of healthcare and improve the treatment of human diseases. The
Foundation will engage in charitable training, funding and recognition
of scientific outreach efforts.
"We believe that one of the most effective methods of addressing
the growing crisis in global human health is to nurture the love and
the value of science, as well as the impact of discovering and
developing new treatments for diseases. The minds and the imaginations
of ethnic minorities and young women are a vast, untapped resource who
are rarely seen at the bench, in the C-suite or in the boardroom. We
intend to change this within this generation," said Denise
DeMan-Williams, Chairman and CEO of Bench International.
"Even in the face of ongoing global economic and political
disparities, the healthcare issues and challenges faced by our diverse
global communities continue to be an ethical and moral obligation for
those that can make a positive impact in this arena. All it takes is
courage and a belief that we can strive together to make a difference
if we try. There are diverse heroes and heroines across the globe who
have yet to be developed or recognized for their impact or potential
to improve or save lives," said Mr. Hill.
In his capacity as Executive Advisor to Bench International, Mr.
Hill also will provide advisory services to the firm and its portfolio
of clients in their mutual efforts to access, secure and retain
leadership talent globally.
