Diligent Technologies Breaks Throughput Record for Single Node In-Line Data De-Duplication At 400MB/s

Diligent Technologies Corporation, a leading provider of
enterprise data protection solutions, today announced that it has
reached sustained in-line de-duplication throughput performance of
400MB/s in a customer data center with the introduction of its v1.2.2
release for its ProtecTIER(TM) disk-based data protection solution.
The customer's environment, consists of ProtecTIER 1.2.2 connected to
an HDS AMS 1000, using a mixed data set of database and file system
data. ProtecTIER customers utilizing the new release, which is
immediately available, can effectively double their sustained
throughput on a per node basis to gain maximum performance.

"One of the main concerns for enterprise customers today is the
recovery speed of backups," said Hu Yoshida, CTO of Hitachi Data
Systems. "The major advantage of Diligent's de-duplication is that it
reduces the amount of data backed up by a factor of 25 to 1. Utilizing
the new release, which provides an inline back up of over 1TB per hour
and enhances ProtecTIER significantly, puts money back into a

The new ProtecTIER release sets a new record for inline dedup held
by Diligent's previous release of ProtecTIER, which was 220MB/s, and
was independently tested and validated by both the ESG Lab and
professional services leader GlassHouse Technologies (both reports

as the data is written during the batch backup process, making the
most efficient use of capacity and providing the benefits of
de-duplication to every piece of data written. Diligent's inline

-- customers do not have to buy additional capacity to perform
"after the fact" de-duplication processes

-- customers are able to instantly electronically vault the
deduped data from the local ProtecTIER system to a remote
system for DR purposes while benefiting from the fact the
required bandwidth for such action has been dramatically
reduced

-- customers are able to de-duplicate all of their data. Other
approaches may force users to manually decide which data sets
will or will not be able to enjoy the benefits of
de-duplication
