Cross Match Technologies Delivers First Single Finger Scanner Worldwide to Be Certified for Germany's E-Passport Program
Cross Match Technologies, Inc., a leading global provider of
high-quality interoperable biometric identity applications and
solutions, today announced that its L SCAN 100 has become the first
single finger scanner to meet the image quality requirements set forth
by Germany's Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) for the
country's e-passport program, which calls for 22,000 units to be
deployed by November 1, 2007.
The German e-passport program requires that devices have 500
pixels per inch (PPI) definition, similar to the FBI's Appendix F
Certification, in order to ensure that fingerprints taken during
enrollment comply with the widely accepted image quality
specifications. Because single finger scanners are primarily used in
access control systems, meeting the image quality requirements with a
single finger scanner further demonstrates Cross Match's position at
the forefront of the industry.
"Cross Match has been the first to meet many of the requirements
surrounding U.S. initiatives, and with Germany's e-passport program we
continue to position ourselves as leaders with our innovative
solutions," said Gerhart Ernst, managing director of Cross Match
Technologies GmbH, the international headquarters of Cross Match
Technologies, Inc. "Meeting the 500 ppi requirements with a single
finger scanner is a big step for biometrics and the international need
for smaller, more mobile devices that capture high quality images."
Cross Match's L SCAN 100 was approved for the e-passport program
by BSI following a third-party evaluation by the Fraunhofer Institute
for Applied Optics and Precision Mechanics (IOF) in Jena, Germany. The
certification process was conducted entirely by the IOF using its own
hands-on testing methods and a sample scanner provided by Cross Match,
rather than using pre-collected data.
Additionally, Cross Match is pleased to have successfully used the
L SCAN 100 for large-scale voter registration programs in Africa,
which also call for high quality fingerprint scanners.
