U.S. files civil complaint against Anadarko


    NEW YORK (Reuters) - Anadarko Petroleum Corp and Kerr-McGee Corp face civil charges of fraudulently trying to avoid hundreds of millions of dollars in environmental liabilities, U.S. prosecutors and the Environmental Protection Agency said on Thursday.

    A statement by the U.S. Attorney's Office in Manhattan said Anadarko, which acquired Kerr-McGee in 2006, was issued with the complaint over Kerr-McGee's corporate spinoff of its Tronox chemical business in 2006.
