Industry Leading SeaMobile(TM) Announces Acquisition of European Satellite Provider Geolink
SeaMobile, Inc., the dominant global provider of at-sea
communications, connectivity and content services announced today that
it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Geolink, a pioneer and
leading provider of satellite-based broadband communications and
networking services with extensive experience serving the European
market. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
During the past year, SeaMobile has quickly become the dominant
player in at-sea communications services. In May 2006, SeaMobile also
acquired satellite industry leader Maritime Telecommunications Network
(MTN). With the acquisition of Geolink, SeaMobile now provides
broadband satellite, wireless voice and data, internet connectivity,
television and other services for more than 300 maritime vessels
throughout the world. Geolink significantly expands and strengthens
SeaMobile's presence in the European market.
"Our vision at SeaMobile is to be the world's premiere provider of
communications services to remote places. The strength of Geolink,
particularly in Europe, accelerates our goal dramatically," said
SeaMobile Enterprises Chief Executive Officer, William D. Marks.
"Geolink is well respected in Europe where there is significant
opportunity to expand our customer base and the adoption of the many
services we offer. We continue to change the way people communicate in
remote locations on land and sea all over the world."
In addition to providing communications services to cruise ships
and other maritime vessels throughout Europe, Geolink also has
developed a suite of niche solutions for land-based wireless
communications serving individuals, businesses and organizations
worldwide. Geolink utilizes a partnership with the world's leading
satellite networks (Inmarsat, Iridium, Eutelsat and Intelsat) and
selected Land Earth Stations to provide service to more than 150
countries throughout the world.
"We are excited about the new and expanded opportunity this
acquisition presents for Geolink," said Pierre Macquet, Geolink Chief
Executive Officer. "SeaMobile's depth and expertise, along with our
ability to combine our product lines into the broadest and best in the
industry, provides us with tremendous potential to expand our reach
throughout the world. It also gives us the opportunity to further
increase the value of our services offered to our existing customers.
Geolink is thrilled to be a part of SeaMobile."
Today, SeaMobile provides a host of broadband satellite, wireless
voice, data, content, and internet communications services in remote
land locations and at-sea for cruise ships, ferries, yachts, container
ships and offshore platforms. SeaMobile also provides at-sea services
that include printed versions of more than 350 daily newspapers, live
television, access to bank accounts through onboard ATMs and internet
cafes.
