Pope, at U.N., criticizes greed at expense of world's poor

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Pope Francis told world leaders gathered at the United Nations on Friday that the hunt for material gains and power has led to the destruction of the Earth's natural resources at the expense of those living in deep poverty.

"A selfish and boundless thirst for power and material prosperity leads both to the misuse of available natural resources and to the exclusion of the weak and disadvantaged," he said in remarks to the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
