Nasdaq extends losses on large-cap tech weakness


    NEW YORK (Reuters) - The Nasdaq composite extended losses and fell more than 4 percent on Tuesday, weighed down by a sell-off in large-cap technology companies, including Apple , Microsoft and Google .

    Highlights:

    * Dow component IBM Corp shares fell 1.2 percent to $83.88 ahead of its quarterly earnings due after the closing bell.

    * The Dow Jones industrial average was down 173.15 points, or 2.09 percent, at 8,108.07. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was down 25.68 points, or 3.02 percent, at 824.44. The Nasdaq Composite Index was down 57.20 points, or 3.74 percent, at 1,472.13.
