Hungary agrees to amend media law - EU Commission


    BRUSSELS (Reuters) - Hungary has agreed to amend its controversial media law to comply with European Union regulations and address concerns over freedom of expression and broadcasting, the European Commission said on Wednesday.

    EU telecoms chief Neelie Kroes said Hungary had proposed changes to the law and those amendments had satisfied EU concerns, but said the Commission would monitor how Budapest implements the changes closely. Hungary is expected to make the changes in the next two weeks, the Commission said.

    "We will continue to work to ensure agreed changes are incorporated into Hungarian law and revised law is consistently applied in practice," Kroes said in a statement. (Reporting by Justyna Pawlak; Editing by Luke Baker)
