U.N. to host extra climate talks in April
"The meeting will be held in Bonn on April 9-11," a delegate said of the decision by an 11-member group representing key nations meeting at the U.N. Climate Change Secretariat.
The April meeting, of senior government officials, would be preceded by one-day preparatory talks among key groups of nations.
Until now, the negotiating calendar had been limited to a session of officials in Bonn from May 31-June 11 to prepare for annual ministerial talks in Cancun, Mexico, from November 29-December 10.
That compared with five preparatory talks last year before Copenhagen, which disappointed many nations by falling short of a binding deal.
In April, delegates would also discuss a need for more talks later in the year to try to spur efforts to slow climate change.
