Stocks rise after GDP data



    NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. stocks rose at the open on Friday after data showed the U.S. economy grew at a 5.7 percent pace in the fourth quarter, much higher than expected.

    The Dow Jones industrial average gained 47.99 points, or 0.47 percent, to 10,168.45. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index gained 5.49 points, or 0.51 percent, to 1,090.02. The Nasdaq Composite Index gained 19.28 points, or 0.88 percent, to 2,198.28.
