Alcoa reports second-quarter profit, shares rise


    (Reuters) - Aluminum producer Alcoa Inc reported a second-quarter profit on Tuesday, which included $78 million in special items tied to a previously announced restructuring aimed at reducing the cost base of its commodity business.

    Net income was $138 million, or 12 cents a share, compared with a loss of $119 million, or a loss of 11 cents, a year earlier. Sales were flat at $5.8 billion. Its stock rose 2 percent after the results were announced.
