Nasdaq falls 1 percent after Apple miss

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The Nasdaq fell more than 1 percent on Wednesday, weighed down by technology heavyweight Apple's profit miss, but gains in chipmaker Intel and insurer Travelers kept the Dow in the black and put a floor in the S&P 500.

The Dow Jones industrial average gained 16.12 points, or 0.14 percent, to 11,593.17. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index dropped 4.41 points, or 0.36 percent, to 1,220.97. The Nasdaq Composite Index dropped 24.17 points, or 0.91 percent, to 2,633.26.
