Wall St opens down as earnings disappoint


    NEW YORK (Reuters) - Stocks opened lower on Tuesday as a slew of corporate earnings failed to persuade investors to add to the previous session's gains.

    The Dow Jones industrial average was down 22.18 points, or 0.19 percent, at 11,958.34. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index dipped 3.45 points, or 0.27 percent, at 1,287.39. The Nasdaq Composite Index was off 11.75 points, or 0.43 percent, at 2,705.80.
