Wall St slides on economy worries


    NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. stocks fell more than 1 percent at the open on Tuesday as investors grew concerned over the pace of economic recovery and prepared for data expected to show further weakness in U.S. housing.

    The Dow Jones industrial average dropped 98.01 points, or 0.96 percent, to 10,076.40. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index fell 12.54 points, or 1.17 percent, to 1,054.82. The Nasdaq Composite Index lost 29.70 points, or 1.38 percent, to 2,129.93.

    The S&P 500 fell below key technical levels and was trading at a near 7-week low.
