Tech shares lead Wall Street advance


    NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. stocks extended gains on Wednesday, with the Nasdaq Composite and the S&P 500 indexes up more than 1 percent on gains in technology shares.

    The Dow Jones industrial average added 87.97 points, or 0.82 percent, to 10,836.23. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index rose 10.94 points, or 0.95 percent, to 1,166.73. The Nasdaq Composite Index gained 27.56 points, or 1.16 percent, to 2,402.87.

    Wall Street opened higher as Spain unveiled strong austerity measures, further easing worries over euro-zone sovereign debt problems.
