Wall St rises on payrolls, data eyed


    NEW YORK (Reuters) - Stocks rose at the open on Monday, the first trading day on Wall Street after government data last week showed the economy added the largest number of jobs in three years, boosting hopes the recovery was accelerating.

    The Dow Jones industrial average gained 24.56 points, or 0.22 percent, to 10,951.63. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index added 3.36 points, or 0.29 percent, to 1,181.46. The Nasdaq Composite Index rose 8.25 points, or 0.34 percent, to 2,410.83.

    Investors also eyed data on February pending home sales and a March gauge of the services sector, expected at 10 a.m. (1400 GMT).
