Dow, S&P 500 fall 1 percent; energy weighs



    NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. stocks extended losses on Friday, dragging the Dow industrials and the S&P 500 down more than 1 percent on losses in the industrial and energy sectors.

    Crude oil futures briefly fell below $80 per barrel, while the U.S. dollar strengthened against a basket of currencies .

    The Dow Jones industrial average dropped 95.15 points, or 0.94 percent, to 9,986.16. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index fell 11.60 points, or 1.06 percent, to 1,081.31. The Nasdaq Composite Index lost 6.74 points, or 0.31 percent, to 2,158.55.
