Wall Street extends gains, Dow jumps 3 percent


    NEW YORK (Reuters) - Wall Street extended gains on Thursday, with the Dow briefly jumping 3 percent, as beaten-down energy shares benefited from a gain in oil prices.

    The Dow Jones industrial average jumped 208.76 points, or 2.45 percent, to 8,727.97. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index rose 19.13 points, or 2.13 percent, to 915.91. The Nasdaq Composite Index gained 18.80 points, or 1.16 percent, to 1,634.55.
